Ingredient by ingredient
Pork, gelatin, alcohol, carmine (E120), E471, rennet, enzymes: every flagged item is named, with the question it raises.

Tayib reads every ingredient — pork, gelatin, alcohol, carmine, E471, rennet — and explains its verdict for your school, with the verses, hadith and rulings behind it.

Five verdicts, never a mystery
Every verdict points to the ingredient involved and the rule applied. You see what Tayib read — and what it could not know.
No problematic ingredient for your school, based on the declared list.
A halal body appears on the product page. Tayib reports and describes it; it does not authenticate the certificate.
Information is missing — the gelatin's origin, proof of slaughter, a flavouring's solvent — or the schools differ.
An ingredient forbidden in your school is on the label: pork, blood, an intoxicating drink…
No usable ingredient list. Photograph the label and Tayib will read it.
What Tayib does
Lawful and good, kept apart: an explained halal verdict, then a composition score out of 100.
Pork, gelatin, alcohol, carmine (E120), E471, rennet, enzymes: every flagged item is named, with the question it raises.

A score out of 100 with its negatives and positives — additives, nitrites, salt, NOVA, plastic bottle — and the studies cited (IARC, ANSES).

Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i or Hanbali. Where scholars differ, Tayib shows you instead of deciding for you.
Verses (Sahih International), hadith with their grading, institutional rulings (fatwas): every rule points to its texts.
Open Food Facts data, worldwide. With Tayib+, offline packs for 30 countries.
Sausages, processed meats, sweets, biscuits… the best-rated halal products, ranked by score.

A daily reminder, guides, the ingredient encyclopedia, sunnah foods and the etiquette (adab) of eating.

A history, a weekly report, your days of checking, and smart folders: Avoid, Certified…

How it works
Point at the barcode; detection is automatic. No barcode or unknown product? Photograph the ingredient list.
Every ingredient and additive is checked against Tayib's database, for the school you chose.
The verdict, the reason, the texts and the sources. Then the Tayib score and better-rated alternatives.
The four schools
The same ingredient can be permitted in one school and forbidden in another. Choose your madhhab: Tayib applies its reading and tells you when the other schools conclude differently — with each side's argument.
A real example, as it appears in the app
colouring derived from an insect
The Maliki permission regarding insects includes conditions concerning how they are killed; its application to the industrial production of carmine is debated. Dar al-Ifta and MUI permit this colouring under their conditions, while other authorities reject it. These contemporary opinions cannot be reduced to a uniform permission across an entire school.

Verses are quoted in Arabic with the Sahih International translation; hadith with their collection, number and grading, and the translator credited.
O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
Qur’an 2:168Translation: Sahih International
Al-Hasan bin 'Ali said: "I remember that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Leave what makes you in doubt for what does not make you in doubt. The truth brings tranquility while falsehood sows doubt.'" Another chain reports a similar narration.

FAQ
What Tayib does, what it doesn't, where its rules come from, and what it costs.
Tayib is an iPhone app that helps you tell whether a food product is halal. Scan its barcode or photograph its ingredient list, and Tayib shows a verdict — Halal, Reported certification, Doubtful, Haram or Unknown — explained ingredient by ingredient, for your school of law, with the verses, hadith and rulings behind each rule. It adds a Tayib score out of 100 for composition.
No. Tayib informs, it does not certify. Its verdicts rely on the declared composition and on available data, which may be incomplete or change. When a certification body appears on the product page, Tayib reports it and describes what is known about it, but it does not authenticate the certificate. Tayib does not replace a scholar: for your personal situation, ask a qualified person.
You pick your school — Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i or Hanbali — and Tayib applies that school's reading to each ingredient. Where the schools differ, for example on shrimp, rennet, carmine or wine vinegar, Tayib shows you each side's argument instead of deciding for you.
Because a decisive fact is missing or scholars differ. Examples: gelatin with no stated origin, E471 that can be plant or animal, meat with no proof of halal slaughter, a flavouring whose solvent is not given. Tayib names the ingredient and the question it raises. It is never a fatwa.
From Open Food Facts, the open, collaborative food database that covers the whole world. If a product is unknown or has no ingredient list, you can photograph the label: Tayib reads the text and analyses it. You can also correct the product page on Open Food Facts.
Every rule points to its sources: Qur'an verses (in Arabic, with Sahih International in English and Muhammad Hamidullah in French), hadith with their collection, number and grading, and rulings from bodies such as the International Islamic Fiqh Academy or Egypt's Dar al-Ifta. Differences between schools are presented, not settled for you.
A composition score out of 100, separate from the halal verdict. It combines four criteria chosen by Tayib: nutritional profile, processing and additives, alcohol and stimulants, and sugar, salt and fat. These weights do not measure religious quality. The score is set to 0 for a haram product and capped at 49 when halal status still needs checking. The studies cited (IARC, ANSES…) are shown.
Yes: scanning, the halal verdict, choosing your school, the score and the sources are free forever, with no ads. Tayib+ is an optional annual subscription at €10, €15 or €20 — same access at every price — that adds search without scanning, family allergies, a watch on products you buy (recalls) and offline mode for 30 countries.
Tayib has no account and contains no ads or tracking tools. Your history, folders and settings stay on your iPhone. To show a product, Tayib queries Open Food Facts with its barcode. Tayib+ purchases go through Apple and RevenueCat with an anonymous identifier.
